Body Art Program

The purpose of this program is to provide minimum statewide standards for the regulation of persons engaged in the business of tattooing, body piercing, branding and the application of permanent cosmetics in California. The Safe Body Art Act is a chapter of the California Health and Safety Code, sections 119300-119328.  These requirements are intended to protect both the practitioner and the client from transmission of infectious diseases through the application of proper body art procedures and the control of cross-contamination of instruments and supplies.  Contact the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) at (209) 468-3420 for questions and assistance with the forms.
