Tiered Permitting Program

Hazardous Waste Tiered Permitting

The purpose of this program is to ensure that hazardous wastes treated on-site prior to reuse or disposal are stored, handled, and disposed of in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. No owner or operator of a storage or treatment facility shall treat, store, or dispose of hazardous waste at the facility unless the owner or operator holds a hazardous waste facilities permit or other grant of authorization from the department to use and operate the facility or the owner or operator is operating under a permit-by-rule pursuant to the department’s regulations, or a grant of conditional authorization or conditional exemption.

If you have questions about hazardous waste tiered permitting or wish to know more about the program and associated program fees, please contact the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) at (209) 468-3420  or for more information visit our website at https://www.sjgov.org/department/envhealth/home.
