Fencing requirements are based on zoning, and can be found in Development Title Section 9-400.040. Various exceptions may apply. For specific information regarding your setbacks, please contact the Planning Division.

Subject to specific regulations, one ADU and one Junior ADU (JADU) may be permitted on any lot in any zone that permits single-family dwellings. For specific regulations, see Development Title Section 9-409.010, or contact the Planning Division.

 

Tree removal may be limited by the Development Title on properties with approved development projects, however, the requirements of the Development Title do no apply to the removal of Native Oak Trees on residential properties under 10,000 square feet in size, or commercial or industrial properties under 1 acre in size. To find the zoning designation of your property, visit www.sjmap.org. Click on the link to District Viewer, and search by APN or address. Zoning information can be found in the Parcel Query Details, or the zoning map can be overlayed by selecting Layers → Planning → Zoning.

 

Business License applications start with the Planning Division of the Community Development Department. Renewals of existing Licenses are processed through the Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office. Applications can be applied for online, or at the Planning Counter at 1810 E. Hazelton Avenue, Stockton, CA 95205. The fee for Business Licenses can be found on our fee schedule(PDF, 374KB).

 

The Community Development Department processes 4 types of business licenses:

  • General Business License: Licenses for brick-and-mortar businesses located within the unincorporated County of San Joaquin.
  • Home Occupation Business Licenses: Licenses for home-based businesses for residents of the unincorporated County of San Joaquin.
  • Secondary Business Licenses: Licenses for “businesses within businesses,” like chairs within existing salons and barbershop.
  • Cottage Food Business Licenses: Licenses for preparation and packaging of non-potentially hazardous foods in a private home-kitchen.
